Why Doesn’t Citric Acid Count As A Calorie Source On Nutrition Facts Labels? I Believe It Feeds Into The Cac.

Saturday Feb 6, 2010

I’m a little confused…I’m pretty sure that citric acid contains calories (I calculated it to be a little more than a calorie per gram). Why are the food companies not required to list the citric acid content and/or qualify them as calories? Does your body not absorb citric acid or something? Well if it does then it feeds right into the citric acid cycle and you start turning it into calories.

that is not the federal LAW
as I remember it must be more than ! % of the weight or volume..
OK I had to get my jar
serving size = ΒΌ tsp (1 g)
total carbs 1g = 0%
maybe your spectrometer needs recalibrating

Probably because citric acid is a healthy calorie. There are calories that are healthy and those that are not.
