What’s The Deal With Soy?
Posted by Zolly | Under Nutrition Friday Oct 30, 2009Okay I’m not an expert on nutrition or health but I am an undergrad student with an interest in my body and keeping it healthy. Recently, I read in an organic healthy living almanac of sorts that any foods soy-based are actually toxic to humans and not meant for our consumption. The author also went on to say that many farmers use soy in their livestock feed but they would never eat the product themselves. So, my question is..is soy just another cash cow used by the supplement and health food companies to take advantage of the ignorant american public?
Considering pretty much all not certified organic soy GMO soy and GMO soy has never been used for a controlled feeding study in humans I’d say it is dangerous.
And yes they are overproducing soy and they have to use it somewhere so they put into everything they can. the Japanese do eat soy products daily but in tiny amounts and most of it is fermented (like tofu or soy sauce). Americans are not using soy the same way at all and I believe are getting way too much in their diets.
