Is The Calorie Content Shown On The Can For The Entire Contents Or Just The Part You Would Eat?

For example, in a can of beef stew, there is a lot of greasy gravy. If I eat the beef and potatoes but don’t eat all of the gravy, am I eating less calories than what’s shown on the nutrition facts label?

The calories are for the full contents of what is in the can including the gravy….so yes you would be eating less calories if you did not consume the gravy.

Nutrition laber facts are “per serving”; it shows how many servings are in a can. I’m not sure how many calories you are conserving by not eating the gravy, but I’d think not more than 10% since all that you ate was still coated in the gravy. You may have saved yourself a bit of fat intake, though (and an upset stomach).

Read the label on the products you buy and that will tell you how many calories in the food and how many calories per portion
