Foods high in calcium and chitin, such as Egg shells, crushed oyster shells (ground into powder form), cuttlebone. Chitin as found in insects exo’s mealworms, Tetra Baby shrimp, anole food, leopard gecko food, foods high in protein, betta carotene. 100% pure honey, Zeaxanthin, As well as a little of all the other foods they should have for them minerals and vitamins they contain.
He can get nutrients like calcium in his exoskeleton from crushed shells, cuttlebone, or other hermit crab calcium supplement. As for other nutrients, he can get them form other foods you give him, such as dried and fresh fruits and veggies, and hermit crab food.
He can get what he needs from a normal diet. But you can supplement it with a bit of calcium powder from a pet store. It is for reptiles and is sprinkled on food as a supplement. Crabs are pretty tough and will get over it.
I scramble an egg for my crabs without seasoning, milk or oil and add some of the crushed up egg shell to it. They love it.
