Are There Any Dangers In Taking Nutrition Shakes Daily?

Thursday Jul 2, 2009

I am just starting the Body for Life program and they recommend taking Myoplex nutrition shakes. I am worried they might turn out to have negative side effects. Has anyone had any bad outcomes from taking them?

Myoplex nutrition shakes is just whey protein. So unless you have negative side effects to protein then they are safe.
Now I know others have posted that over consumption of protein can be harmful but seriously are you really just going to be chowing on protein all day? Probably not. What gets me is that everyone is so concerned about consulting a doctor over 1 protein shake but people stuff their faces with McDonalds and Pizza Hut yet no one harps over that.
I have been drinking protein shakes (Met-Rx Chocolate) for YEARS. Sometimes up to 2 shakes a day. No funny business whatsoever. I wouldn’t worry. Train hard and good luck.

Usually diets have a substitution for the menus.
just stick to your program until you reach your goal, you need to think nothing is better than natural stuff.
i was in a diet before with some shakes replacement, i didn’t do it more than three months and just one shake per day.
the only side effect will be: to get sick of them and tired of the flavor.

If they are strictly nutrition, no funny business in the ingredients, I don’t see why not. You may want to consult a doctor, or nutritionist about the brand and the side affects, but I wouldn’t take more than one a day, because you actually can have too much of a good thing.

I heard once that diet shakes would hurt your liver. I read body for life and went on the program. I did get big strong arms but my upper legs got chubby. Big arms look better on guys.

You got one answer here that said definitely, but did not say what danger it would be. Some people sometimes do not know a thing about it, but just say what they think.
They are recommending taking the shakes but you should be able to ask them what you asked on here, and if you are hesitant then do not take them daily. It all depends on what is in the shakes. Find the ingredients and research on Google.

As with any hi-protein/low-carb food, too much can be a bad thing, because your body can only handle so much protein. Below is a nice, factual, account of how the body handles it, and why too much is bad.
